Gettin' Cozy: The Ultimate Guide to Achieving Maximum Comfort
Coming home after a busy day, spending the day at home, snowed in? These are the times I find I crave coziness. A time to unwind, relax, and turn my brain off. Some days are busier than others, but everyday, I need a chance to calm myself and my body. I have always taken relaxation and comfort very seriously, there is something so blissful about cuddling under a warm blanket, with a hot drink, and your fave tv show/movie on. It is important for the body and mind to take a break and unwind. If we don't do this, we will become stressed and overstimulated/overwhelmed, which is harmful to both your body and mind. Some days I don't take the necessary time to myself, which effects my sleep, my attitude, and frankly, my whole day. I find that when I am well rested is when I do my best, like anyone would. In this guide, I will share a few things I like to do to achieve maximum comfort and coziness. You may find these tips beneficial, especially in these cold winter months.
To start, find yourself a spot away from anyone else. A place that you can go to like your bedroom, a couch, in front of a fireplace, a balcony, even a spot outside of your home like a local coffee shop. I find that time alone is good for you. Being away from other people's opinions and attitudes can really help you to be your own person. Don't just pick any place, pick a place that makes you feel good and gives off a vibe that radiates comfort. Where you choose to unwind and relax will effect every other aspect of your relaxation time.
Things you'll need: depending on how you enjoy your free time, you might have a few things you need. Like a fuzzy blanket, a book, a cup of tea, your laptop for movies/tv, a candle? No matter what you choose, choose the things you enjoy or are craving at that moment. Don't: pick something that will stress you out ie. school work, paperwork, emails, etc.
When is the best time to unwind? Well, it depends on your schedule. If you are up and at 'em early in the morning and have a bit of downtime before work/class, consider taking some of that time to relax and get you mind and body ready for the day ahead. If you are like me and are not a morning person, consider spending your free time after a long day of class/work. Right before bed, I love plopping myself right in front of the tv with a blanket and my phone and I am good for a few hours. You may even decide to relax in the afternoon, maybe you come home for lunch or have a half day. Whatever the case, I find this one to be the hardest, because once I am cozy, I don't want to get up to do more things lol!
During this time, try to shut your brain off. This is much easier said than done. Sometimes I have a hard time doing this, especially while I am trying to fall asleep. Overthinking is the worst and it eats at you, causing you to stress more. This is something I definitely have to work on in the new year. You may also choose to collect your thought/reflect on the day. If you like to journal, you should definitely do that. Don't fell like you have to do these things. You may find that just scrolling through social media and watching funny videos can help you to relax, or you may find that all the political news on your timeline gets you more stressed. Choosing what is right for you can take some time.
I also find it beneficial to find inspiration during my downtime. Pinterest is a place I get lost in, whether I am pinning pictures of my dream home, closet goals, or outfit ideas, I am a very visual person and it helps me to explore more of my interests. Turning the tv on and laughing uncontrollably is blissful to me too. Some nights I am stressing, whether it is over an assignment for school, a group project, or I have had a busy shift at work, getting out of my head and not stressing over things can be as simple as watching The Real Housewives or The Bachelor. All in all, I wouldn't say I am lazy, but I just LOVE doing nothing!
Thanks for taking the time to read my post! Hope you found it helpful! :)
Also, all of these photos were taken form Pinterest (and are not mine) and I find to be comfort goals!
